Seminar Outline:

Seminars can be altered to accommodate certain fields as well, to get the maximum result in information provided in the Seminars offered in your particular field.

Participants will come out with an understanding of FXS and how to implement routines, calm sensory issues and work with these children successfully in the classroom and in other situations. We will offer techniques and an extensive materials package with suggestions to assist with the learning process.

Workshop level: Preschool to Senior High, anyone in the Education field, Health Care Professionals, Educational institutions teaching any courses involving working with people with disabilities, Parents, anyone else interested in learning about Fragile X Syndrome.

Number of Participants: We can do small group Seminars, up to very large group Seminars, we just require the number of participants to prepare enough packages.

Experience Teaching: We have been teaching at various Alberta based Teachers' Assistant, Teachers Conferences and general information seminars for several years now. Including Grant McEwan College in Edmonton, Early Education Consortium in Edmonton, and newly for 2005, the Calgary and Area Teachers Conference and the Special Education Conference in Kananaskis.

Biography of Presenters: We, Byron and Lori Groves are the parents of 3 Children, twin boys aged 9 and a daughter, age 7, diagnosed and affected by Fragile X Syndrome (FXS). Lori is a former Special Needs Teachers Assistant with Edmonton Catholic Schools for 9+ years and also has a Rehabilitation Aide Background and has worked with children and Adults with varying needs and disabilities, including Autism and FXS. We are members of an informal support group in Edmonton for families with FXS and are one of the parent contacts for the Glenrose Hospital and the U of A Genetics Lab for families newly diagnosed with FXS. We have a Website devoted to FXS and our families struggles and successes with FXS at www.fragilex.ca and have been featured extensively in the media, throughout Canada this year on the families struggles and successes dealing with 3 children with FXS.

Sessions: Seminars are available in 1/2 day or full-day sessions and with different fee structures. For shorter seminars, please inquire and we can discuss the fees accordingly. We recommend the 4-hour seminar, as there are a lot of things to cover and anything less than 2 hours is just a basic outline and package.
